Bruce Levy is Vice Chairman and General Counsel of RER, and CEO of RER Equities, Inc., RER’s Mid-Atlantic asset acquisition company. A commercial real estate attorney by background, Mr. Levy has over 40 years of experience in commercial real estate transactions with extensive involvement in real estate finance, including the workout and disposition of troubled real estate and loans secured by real estate. In his capacity as an attorney in private practice, Mr. Levy was extensively involved in the representation of lenders and developers in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including, the negotiation and documentation of the acquisition, financing, leasing, property management, syndication and disposition of apartment projects, shopping centers, office buildings, hotels, industrial warehouses, land development, and other projects.
Mr. Levy was one of the lead attorneys overseeing the legal aspects of the asset management and disposition of a $1 billion portfolio of federally insured apartment project loans and apartment projects owned by a federal agency within the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In connection with that project, he acted as lead portfolio counsel to HUD's designated real estate asset management company and loan servicer and worked closely with them in connection with the asset management, foreclosure, deed in lieu of foreclosure, loan enforcement, and disposition of apartment projects and loans secured by apartment projects.
In addition to Mr. Levy’s activity as an attorney in private practice, during the mid-1980’s Mr. Levy served as General Counsel and Senior Vice President of the J.E. Robert Companies, a national asset management/capital recovery firm. In this capacity, Mr. Levy was involved in the evaluation, asset management, and disposition of over $2 billion of troubled loans and real estate for banks, savings and loans, the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
Mr. Levy has a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, and a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center Washington, DC. Notably, Mr. Levy was Editor of "Law and Policy in International Business," its international law journal.
